第二話: キューパンと であう

あさ はやく、こめこは ひとりで だいどころで れんしゅうします。おおきな ボウルに こむぎこを いれます。みずと しおを くわえます。でも また パンは しっぱいします。

こめこの なみだが おちると、ふしぎな ことが おこります。だいどころが ひかりだします。とつぜん べつの だいどころに います。とても ふるい だいどころです。むかしの どうぐが かべに かかっています。おおきな ビンが たなに ならんでいます。

きんいろの ひかりの なかで、キューパンが あらわれます。ちいさくて ふわふわした パンの かたちで、ここのつの うずまきが あります。「わたしは きみの なかに すんでいるんだよ」と キューパンは いいます。

キューパンは こめこに むかしの おはなしを みせます。こめこは おかあさんと おとうさんを みます。ふたりは わるい パンと まほうで たたかっています。

「きみの おかあさんと おとうさんは とくべつな パンやさんだったんだ」と キューパンは いいます。「むらが あぶないとき、ふたりは ぼくを きみの なかに いれたんだ。パンの まほうで みんなを まもるためにね。」

こめこは ほんとうの だいどころに もどります。こんどは ちがいます。パンのこを さわりながら、キューパンと はなします。キューパンは こめこに パンのこの かんじかたを おしえます。

こめこが こころを パンのこに いれると、パンが ふくらみはじめます。はじめての いい パンです！

こめこは うれしなみだを ながします。「これからも いっしょに がんばろうね」と キューパンに いいます。パンは きれいな きんいろに かがやきます。

イーストせんせいは とびらの ところから みています。そっと わらいます。「ついに キューパンが めざめたか」と かんがえます。

English Version

Episode 2: Meeting Kyuu-pan

Early in the morning, Komeko practices alone in the kitchen. She puts flour in a big bowl. She adds water and salt. But again, her bread fails.

When Komeko’s tears fall, something strange happens. The kitchen begins to shine. Suddenly, she is in a different kitchen. It is very old. Ancient tools hang on the walls. Big jars line the shelves.

In a golden light, Kyuu-pan appears. It looks like a small, fluffy bread with nine swirls. “I live inside you,” Kyuu-pan says.

Kyuu-pan shows Komeko a story from the past. Komeko sees her mother and father in the story. They are fighting evil bread with their magic.

“Your parents were special bakers,” Kyuu-pan says. “When the village was in danger, they put me inside you. They wanted to protect everyone with bread magic.”

Komeko returns to the real kitchen. This time is different. As she touches the dough, she talks with Kyuu-pan. The bread spirit teaches her how to feel the dough.

When she puts her heart into the dough, the bread begins to rise. It is her first good bread!

Komeko cries happy tears. “Let’s work hard together,” she tells Kyuu-pan. The bread shines with a beautiful golden color.

Master Yeast watches from the doorway. He smiles quietly. “So,” he thinks, “Kyuu-pan has finally awakened.”
